DEFINITION OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Quality physical education is a planned program of instruction and activity for all students throughout the entire year that develops skills and attitudes towards a healthy active lifestyle.
OUR GYMNASIUM IS MY CLASSROOM. Your child will come to my classroom for three 30-minute classes each week.
Learning takes place here in many different forms. When students come into the gym, they are expected to listen briefly to our plan for today’s learning, which takes place over the next 30 minutes. We begin our PE period with a warm-up activity. Next, a skill is introduced and practiced. The students then perform the skill in a game or whole/small group activity. To end our time and get ready for their classroom, we have a cool down or transitional time activity.
I teach four simple rules for the children to understand and follow.
A – Act safely. B – Be positive. C – Cooperate. D – Do your best.
Each misbehavior in the gym can be attributed to one of those rules. These rules are also closely aligned with our school’s Code of Conduct: Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Responsible, Be Respectful. At this age, however, most children thoroughly enjoy physical education class and will strive to be the best they can be, each and every time. With good listening from all students, the activity time (time spent engaged in physical learning) can be as much as 25 minutes of the 30 minute period.
If at any time, you have questions about your child’s progress in physical education, please do not hesitate to contact me.
